Tigerettes eye end of season

PRINCETON — The Princeton Tigerettes’ regular season has wound down, so conference and tournament play begins soon.

It all starts with the coveted Mountain State Athletic Conference “Night of Champions,” in which the Tigerettes will send three individuals to the skills competition on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Princeton barely missed out on team play by a tough loss to Woodrow Wilson at home last week.

The Night of Champions activities start bright and early Saturday morning at the South Charleston Community Center, with the skills competition starting at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for students. Ticket price includes all of the day’s activities, including both boys’ and girls’ games. Representing the Tigerettes will be Hannah Preservati in the free-throw shooting competition, followed by McKenzie Akers in the three-point shooting competition.

The Tigerettes will also team up Marissa Mullins with Princeton’s Hunter Walters for the Hot Shot competition. Hot-shots are teams of one boy and one girl from each school. They are given one minute to alternate shots and score points.

The Tigerettes’ sectional play begins next week as well. The girls’ Region 3, Section 2 Tournaments will be held at Oak Hill High School.

Princeton will face Woodrow Wilson Wednesday night, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m.

Tip-off for the undefeated and top-ranked Greenbrier East Lady Spartans is set for 7:45 p.m. The Lady Spartans will play Monday night’s winner between Nicholas County and Riverside. Wednesday’s winners will move onto sectional championship play Friday, Feb. 24, at Oak Hill High School with game time set at 7:30 p.m.
