Akers was a part of the First and Second Team All-State/All-Conference, was the Bluefield Daily Telegraph Player of the Week, and the Princeton Times Player of the Year. She hit a 1,000-point milestone in basketball, and was an MVP for the PSHS basketball program.

She also was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and was part of the Local School Improvement Council.
Akers participated in Madrigals, Center Stage, and All-County Choir, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Fellowship of Christian Atheletes, and Pep Club. She won the “Light Up Within” award with choir and was Homecoming Queen.
