GARDNER —
The Greater Princeton Little League needs the community’s help.
Last summer during a thunderstorm, lightening damaged the Little League fields’ lighting system.
To continue to provide the children of Mercer County with an opportunity to play on the fields, President Stanley Six had to hire a contractor to fix the lighting.
Six said, “Now, I’m asking the community for some help because it cost $4,000 for us to get that lighting fixed, and there’s no way that we can pay that without taking something away from the kids.”
He also reminded the Mercer County Commission and the community recently that the 2012 AAA Baseball State Champion Princeton Tigers got their start at the fields in Gardner and that if Princeton wanted to continue to have a successful baseball tradition, investments had to be made in the Little Leagues.
“Princeton has some of the nicest baseball facilities in the state,” Six added, “That’s one of the reasons that this group of players has been so successful, they’ve had great facilities to play in.”
Six added that he had several leagues of teams using the facility and hosting Senior and Minor League state championships boosted the tourism industry in Mercer County because parents and teams needed a place to stay when they were competing in Gardner.
As such, the Greater Princeton Little League has requested some of the money from the Mercer County Commission and it’s hotel/motel fund to help cover the Little League’s expenses in fixing the lighting.
“[The County Commission] asked me to get tournaments to come to this facility,” Six said, “We did. Now, we need help to maintain these great facilities so that we can keep hosting the tournaments and providing these great facilities.”
