Landy takes over PPL adult programming

PRINCETON — When the adult programming director position opened up at the Princeton Public Library, it felt natural for Diane Landy to apply.
She had enjoyed and taken part in so many of the programs that former Adult Programming Coordinator Kristi Lewis organized that she felt like one of the PPL's family members.
Now, she's getting her chance to help the community by putting on programs that they can't see anywhere else. Two programs stick in her mind Thursday morning between customers needing help with the computers that the library has available.
One was called Passing the Music Down. Landy said the idea originated from a children's book of the same name by Sarah Sullivan. In the book, a young boy convinces his family to move to West Virginia because he wants to take fiddle lessons from a world famous fiddler.
The program at the library involved a group of fiddlers coming in and passing the music down to students right before school started.
“It was neat,” Landy said. “They explained their programs and talked about some of the scholarships that they offer. They even provide some students with musical instruments.”
The other involves the television show Downton Abbey. Landy has scheduled a program on Jan. 3 before the series premieres for season three on the following Sunday.
She'll be showing a video that reminds viewers of what happened in the first two seasons. Landy would love to see fans come out at 6 p.m. dressed in their best Edwardian hairstyles.
“The goal of these programs is to make the community better and offer something that they wouldn't normally get to see,” Landy said. “It definitely is a great feeling to help people.”
