PRINCETON —
Sometimes, a name for a business can’t sum up everything it offers.
Such is the case with Muffler Man Tire & Auto Care on 527 Mercer St.
Gerald Elledge, the owner of the business, said Monday, “We started out 12 years ago as an exhaust shop because we had Mark (Lippencott, exhaust specialist) doing mufflers and other parts of the exhaust system. Now, the name kind of handicaps us, because people don’t associate us with doing other auto repairs. But we have to keep it because we are known by that name.”
The business serves as a West Virginia Inspection Station. It does alignments, both two- and four-wheel drive, classic or new automobiles, custom exhaust systems, all muffler systems, computer diagnostics, air-conditioning and/or heater service, engine repair or replacement, radiator service or replacement, tires, brakes, tune-ups, shocks, rotors/drums turned (carry-ins welcome and OEM or alternate parts (whatever you want).
“Mike Jackson is an ASE-certified mechanic in just about anything that can be done,” Elledge said.
Muffler Man, he added, subscribes to All Data, which allows them to keep a running record of their business, including a record of all repairs done to a vehicle in order to have a record to follow.
“We also use the same labor rate book as Ramey’s and Cole’s, but the difference is that we charge only $59 an hour and we bill customers accordingly,” he said.
Elledge continued, “We guarantee everything we do. We have very few returns, but, if we do, we correct it.”
The shop has a state-of-the-art laser alignment machine and other equipment updated to the 2013 model year.
“We try to stay ahead of the trends,” he said.
The shop has five working bays. It is open Monday—Friday, 8 a.m.—5 p.m. Appointments are suggested but not necessary.
Linda Elledge, Gerald’s wife and the co-owner of the business, serves as office manager.
“We give our customers a clean environment where they can wait for their cars. We offer candy and free coffee,” he said.
Muffler Man accepts all major credit cards, plus the following fleet cards: ARI, PHI and Voyager.
“We try to provide the best possible service that we can,” he said.
The phone number is 304-431-1100.
