Mercer Springs Farm gets horses in step in competitions

PRINCETON — In one form or the other and under one name or the other, Mercer Springs Farm has been a part of the Mercer County business community for nearly a century.  It currently serves today as a horse training center.

Sandra "Sandy" Lilly, who grew up on the farm that her family has owned for decades on the Mercer Springs Road, said recently, "We opened the stable to the public in 1992. We train horses, namely American Saddlebreds, for horse shows and we also offer riding lessons."
Lilly added, "I love horses, because they are intelligent and they keep you grounded. The horses we train are extraordinary athletes."
The farm, she said, is currently training horses for clients from 10 different states and the Republic of South Africa.
"Horses are intelligent. We learn as much from them as they do from us," she said.
The Lillys have a staff of around 10 people most of the time. Their day starts between 4-4:30 a.m., with lessons from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, with feeding and clean-up afterwards.
The phone number is 304-384-8800.
