PRINCETON —
The Mercer County Commission is expected to approve a $5,000 grant for the Pisgah Community Playground Association at its February meeting.
PCPA founder David Brown said the playground association planned to use the money to continue to add equipment to the playground. As Brown found out when he began the project, purchasing playground equipment is expensive.
Brown said that the group planned to add exercise equipment to the area. As Brown said during a tour of the playground in the summer of 2011, the goal of playground association is to provide something that everyone can enjoy at the playground.
For example, one of the swings in the area is designed for those with disabilities.
“It’s wonderful,” Katie Robinette said of the playground Wednesday afternoon. “This is something anyone can use.”
Already, Brown has overseen the completion of a basketball court and children's playground equipment. A volleyball court is on the site, however, Brown wished for additional funds to complete it.
“It's in our long-term goals to have that fixed up with sand,” Brown said Wednesday afternoon.
Brown added that he was very thankful for receiving a $1,000 grant last year. Brown added that the PCPA had received a $2,000 grant from Consol Energy for the playground.
