'Bad blood' turns deadly on Bee Street

PRINCETON — A history of “bad blood” turned fatal Wednesday afternoon for one local man. Another was being questioned in the death.

Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash reported that an unidentified man died of what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, fired outside of 407 Bee St., in Princeton. The incident took place just after 4 p.m. in the normally quiet neighborhood.

Ash said the shooting was the culmination of a long-running feud, “apparently between people who had known one another for some time and had bad blood between them.”

A witness happened upon the scene and phoned emergency officials.

First responders with the Princeton Fire Department and Princeton Rescue Squad attempted CPR on the male who was shot, but he died on the sidewalk at the scene within minutes of the shooting. His car, a silver Hyundai, was reportedly running on the street when he was shot.

As Princeton Police Department Lt. J.W. Howell and several investigators processed the scene, they located a path the bullet likely took, possibly lodging inside a hollow part of the white, two-story home.

Ash did not release the name of the alleged shooter, but he emphasized that the case was still very much under investigation late Wednesday afternoon.

The man believed to have fired the fatal shot was dressed completely in camouflage at the scene. Ash said he reportedly had just returned from deer hunting when the deadly altercation took place.

The subject was transported to Princeton Police Department by Lt. K.T. Compton, while Howell and other officers remained at the scene.

Ash reported that authorities were not releasing the name of the deceased because his family could not be reached for notification purposes.
