Vinciguerra tapped to lead County Commission

PRINCETON — A new voice will lead the Mercer County Commission into 2013.

Newly elected County Commissioner Gene Buckner nominated County Commissioner Mike Vinciguerra to serve as President of the organization Wednesday morning.

Because the other commissioner and 2012 president, Joe Coburn, was ill and unable to attend, the commissioners jumped to a vote on the motion. Buckner and Vinciguerra voted unanimously in favor of making the latter the county commission president.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Mercer County,” Vinciguerra said. “One thing is that I’ll be signing all of the checks for the county.”

Buckner and Vinciguerra had previously run against each other for a county commission seat. Buckner defeated Vinciguerra in the election but was unable to take his seat because of a technicality. Vinciguerra was then awarded the position.

Buckner became a commissioner this year after defeating Democrat Terry Hughes in a battle for outgoing commissioner J.W. “Jay” Mills’ seat.
