PRINCETON —
Constructed in 1916 and oringinally consisting of four classrooms, Montcalm High School had been added onto and expanded, but massive flooding in 1963 had taken its toll on the school.
Reporter Dave Pedneau said the building was, "delapidated...run down...and a shame to call the building a school, a place of learning."
In 1963, the Bluestone River flooded. The water ran five feet deep and caused major destruction to both the interior and exterior of the school. Certain classrooms were inaccessible and other rooms, such as office space and a teacher's lounge, were lost entirely.
Pedneau called for the repair or reconstruction of the school during the upcoming bond election. He also suggested that the Montcalm and Bramwell high schools, as well as the Montcalm and Bramwell junior highs, could be consolidated; and also suggested consolidating Rock, Prosperity, and Pinnacle schools into a new Montcalm Elementary School.
