PRINCETON —
Reporter Barty Wyatt submitted an article on the challenges that Mercer County faces in order to progress into the future.
According to Wyatt, the first vital challenge facing Mercer County is the selection of a suitable site for a large commercial airport. The second challenge was flood control. Wyatt called for a flood control dam located at the the gorge of the Bluestone River, one mile above the mouth of Lashmeet. Wyatt further stated that a dam at this location would benefit farming and would contribute to a possible industrial site or factory being located in the area, bringing jobs to southern West Virginia, as well as prevent yearly flooding in Lashmeet, Spanishburg, Princeton, and several other sites.
The end of the article calls for Dr. Dan Hale to get behind this project and push through the stalemate that had been in the Mercer County Planning Board so the county can once again be on the receiving end of Federal and State aid.
