PRINCETON —
An annual tradition was celebrated by senior citizens and teenagers of Princeton Senior High School; a Christmas dinner at the high school.
Seniors said that they felt appreciated and the teens said they loved learning from their elders.
More than 200 area seniors gathered in the PSHS cafeteria for the yearly entertainment and traditional dinner that included turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, slaw, rolls, peach cobbler, cookies and an assortment of cakes. The no-charge dinner was donated and prepared mostly by Carol Bailey's Family and consumer Sciences class as well as Coach Robert Wray's varsity and junior varsity basketball players.
"I think it's wonderful that they put up this dinner for seniors. It shows how young people appreciate seniors. It gives the senior citizens a good tome to get together and enjoy the company of each other instead of sitting around the house getting lonely," said three-year attendee Jack Porter of Princeton.
After-dinner entertainment was provided by the Mercer County Commission on Aging Swinging Seniors line dance group and the PSHS Madrigals.
The Swinging Seniors performed to several Christmas favorites such as "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "Frosty the Snowman," and finished with a rendition of "Rocky Top."
The Madrigals, directed by Allen Kade opened with "Gloria." Taken from an African mass, the selection featured traditional Latin text set to African beats.
