PRINCETON —
Governor Jay Rockefeller announced the start of Project Conserve, an energy conservation program designed to help homeowners save energy and reduce fuel cost through simple home improvements.
Sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the Governor's Office of Economic and Community Development, all 442, 904 homeowners in the state of West Virginia received a questionnaire relating to their homes.
The 29 questions covered topics such as the age of their home, the number and type of windows used in the home, the type of fuel used to heat the home, and the average thermostat setting.
Once the questionnaire was returned to Charleston an analysis was developed to give each homeowner recommendations for home improvements that would reduce energy and/or fuel consumption; as well as an estimate on how much these improvements would cost the homeowner in both do-it-yourself projects and contracted work.
