Slideshow: Princeton Primary School hosts Spring Carnival
Princeton Primary School teachers, administrators, parents and students joined forces to bring a Spring Carnival to Tiger Drive Friday afternoon. The event featured old-fashioned carnival games, such as a sack race, and egg-spoon competition and a football toss, as well as a dunking booth, snacks, pony rides and more.

Children's Home Society of West Virginia teamed up with a number of social services organizations to show potential foster parents and CHS supporters exactly what happens to children when they must be removed from their homes. Stops included a visit from West Virginia State Police Sgt. M.D. Clemons, as well as trips to MountainHeart Services, a presentation on Child Protective Services and lunch at Princeton Community Hospital.

Slideshow: Sun Valley students jump for healthy hearts
Sun Valley School hosted its annual Jump Rope for Heart celebration Thursday, raising more than $3,200 in funds to benefit the American Heart Association. The students obtained sponsorships for their time on the playground. They fulfilled the commitment by jumping rope, hopping on pogo balls and even hula-hooping to raise awareness about the need to be physically active, as well as to help others fighting heart disease.

Children from across Mercer County participate in Wednesday afternoon's Lego "Block Party" at the Princeton Public Library. Events included Lego kits, pin the head on the Lego man, a craft, a Lego movie, and a snack featuring Lego crackers and Lego head marshmallows.

Slideshow: Mercer County students create A Place to Grow
Thirty-three students in four classes at Princeton Senior High School spend their spring semester nurturing seedlings and growing flowers and vegetables for local gardens — all while learning science, job and social skills. A Place to Grow greenhouse will open for plant sales Tuesday, May 1. It will remain open Monday-Friday, 8-3:30 p.m., throughout the month, or until all plants are sold.

Slideshow: Manhunt, mission to find Porsche Atwell ends peacefully
Local and state officers combed Mercer and McDowell counties from early afternoon on April 12 until 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, before apprehending 38-year-old Tracey Atwell in a rural area of Mercer County. Atwell's run ended near the intersection of Nubbins Ridge Road and Egeria Road, after a series of cell phone calls alerted authorities to his whereabouts. Atwell fled with his 8-year-old daughter, Porsche, after allegedly choking his wife, Christina Atwell, 33, to death inside a home on Browning School Road. In addition to the murder charge, Tracey Atwell is also accused of kidnapping, armed robbery, grand larceny and child concealment. He is slated for a bond hearing Monday afternoon before Mercer Circuit Judge Omar Aboulhosn.

Heaven Sent Ministries hosted a weekend-long event to fill a shipping container of food to benefit families in need in Ghana. From Thursday afternoon through Saturday, volunteers turned out in two-hour shifts to fill, seal and package thousands of packages of a nutritious rice-and-soy casserole with the potential to save lives around the world.
