City can avoid costly skywalk on Stafford Drive

PRINCETON — Editor/General Manager:                                                In lieu of the recent articles regards the crosswalk on Stafford Drive and the cost of building a crosswalk bridge, I would like to put forth the following suggestion. Instead of a bridge, why don’t the city consider a crosswalk such is on Mercer Street and a traffic light that can be controlled by pedestrian buttons? It would involve two poles with the button for the person attempting to cross to push for the light to change.

I have seen this sort of control in other cities, and as far as I can tell, it worked very well indeed. This would eliminate the construction of a very expensive bridge. I agree that due to the traffic congestion on Stafford Drive, in that particular area, some sort of control should be instituted.

Respectfully,

Donald E. Ingram
